Brief History “The man who is credited with having named Prairie Home is J.W. Boswell. A store building stood alone on the prairie along the stagecoach route from Boonville to Jefferson City. It was owned and built by Boswell in 1857 and still stands in Prairie Home. When he cam from his home to the store he always remarked "I'm going up to my prairie home." The name just seemed to stay. ”—Ann Beckner Betteridge. Discover Cooper County by looking back. Interstate Studio Sedalia, MO. 1995. Chapter 10. |
